Sweet Home, Oregon |
Sweet Home is a community of 9,060 nestled in the West foothills of the Cascade Mountains in the East end of Linn County, Oregon. Located approximately 20 miles from Oregon's major north-south arterial route I-5, Sweet Home's historical roots lie deep in the timber industry. As environmental issues reduced the harvesting of timber on government and private lands during the 1980s, Sweet Home experienced a major decline in population and industry. But, while other Oregon timber communities died away, the Sweet Home Community banded together and rode through the changes, eventually turning a small timber town into a unique and livable community for families who prefer a small town lifestyle with easy access to metropolitan communities and recreational opportunities.
From skiing at Hoodoo during the winter months, checking out the local waterfalls in the spring, hiking the Cascade Trails in the summer or taking your boat out onto Foster Lake one last time as the leaves fall, nature is calling you to come out and play when you come to Sweet Home. If you crave more structured entertainment and/or recreation, check out the Best in the West Triathlon Festival in September at Foster Lake, listen to the latest country music entertainers at the Oregon Jamboree 3 day event in July, run in the Hero Half marathon on Memorial Day weekend, bring your favorite sweetheart to the Sweetheart Run on Valentines' Day and now save yourself and out run Zombies on Halloween weekend.
